Let’s go to Patreksfjörður, Iceland! Recently I’ve travelled to the cold land of Iceland, because of the stunning cod that swims in the waters surrounding this island. What I’m going to show you on this #FishyFriday today is… cooking the worst dish I’ve ever tasted!
Don’t get me wrong, I love exploring unknown food cultures and exciting new dishes, but what my Icelandic fisherman friend Thorsteinn considers a local specialty, made my stomach turn.
We went out fishing together to catch fresh cod, which is one of my favourite fish species by the way. Icelandic cod is incredible! Afterwards Thorsteinn wanted to show me his favourite dish. We first poached the cod and boiled potatoes, so far so good.
But! In the end, Thorsteinn poured over lamb stomach fat! It’s an Icelandic tradition, which I respect, but my taste buds just couldn’t get used to it. I still very much love sharing this video with you, cause it’s real easy to adjust the recipe to my version. Simply replace the lamb fat by melted butter and you’ve got an amazing dish with sustainably caught cod from Iceland. Enjoy!
