Vegetarian yam rice
Yam rice is also often cooked with pork. As I was serving this yam rice with a pork dish, [bak kut teh](https://www.nyonyacooking.com/recipes/bak-kut-teh), I omitted pork in this recipe. Dried shrimps can also be removed from this recipe to adapt it to a vegetarian dish. Feel free to add more shiitake mushroom and also a pinch of salt to enhance the taste.
Yam rice in a rice cooker
It is also possible to cook yam rice in a rice cooker. Simply use an electric rice cooker to cook rice along with the sautéd yam cubes as how you would normally cook rice. In a electronic rice cooker, rice will be able to stay warm longer than a traditional pot.
